Cyclo-Hexane

1977-ish

Well, there was Graham Guyford, Tank and me...and possibly some others. Graham was the heavy metal one (and whenever I see the lead singer in the movie 'Spinal Tap', I think of him), I was the punky one, but still a bit Beatley, and Tank was the furry bespectacled cross-over, a sort of Motörhead, you might say....and you'd be right.

I can't remember much about what we did, but I do know that we gathered regularly in Graham's bedroom on Norwich Road, and thrashed out bastard versions of Thin Lizzy, Black Sabbath and Sex Pistols songs. We wrote some stuff too, but don't ask me what they were called or anything, I just don't know. Mind you, there was one called 'Lynx', written in honour of our name change to 'Lynx Fahren', a terribly witty linguistic joke which survived about two weeks before we all stopped using the 'Fahren' bit.

We never gigged, or if we did I've blanked it out. But I'm sure all the girls were very impressed.

This was the first proper 'group' I was ever in, here I started to learn the dynamics of a 'band', how to assert the ego and compromise as necessary. Good early training and the first step on the road to all that followed.
